I agree - I'm also disappointed and embarrassed that the Device to Root out Evil had to be sent away. That little park space is so empty and unused now that it's gone, it used to be full of whimsy and people drawn there by the unusual piece.

I love the upside down church, and am still disappointed - and yes, embarrassed - that Vancouver cowered and let it go. My favourite comment about it was the hockey fan who overlooked it, not an art guy, who loved the whimsy it produced - kids standing on their heads for photos in front of it, and the like.
An increasing number of cities around the world are putting out RFPs/calls to artists for submissions that merge public art and bicycle parking. This is brilliant, fun, and cost-efficient. Vancouver should be doing this too. Shift the silo mentality, combine a block of cycling and public art funding.
