To Brazil And Beyond: Bringing the Next Biennale to Vancouver

Friday October 19th, 2012

It’s the beginning of a new era at the Vancouver Biennale. Planning has begun on our international outreach strategy for the 2013-15 exhibition which will feature national and city pavilions. We’ll have plenty to blog about over the next couple months as we connect with artists and curators around the globe in search great art to celebrate our public spaces. The working title of the next exhibition is “Crossroads Vancouver -49 degrees N/ 123 degrees W” and will unveil throughout Metro Vancouver in the Spring & Summer of 2014.

In anticipation of an upcoming trip to Brazil for the Sao Paulo Biennale, Founder and Artistic Director Barrie Mowatt recently met with Brazilian Consul General Sergio Florencio and Deputy Consul Cristina Dos Anjos (pictured above) to learn more about their country and their artists. As Brazil’s presense on the world stage rises, so too do their  artists.  It’s our intention to reflect this in the next Biennale

Those interested in learning more about Brazilian visuals arts and architecture need look no further than SFU Harbour Centre. The Consulate General of Brazil in Vancouver and Simon Fraser University are sponsoring a couple free lectures exploring the characteristics and the historical perspectives of Brazilian visual arts and architecture:
